The Russian Ministry of Transport discusses the implementation of the Lena Bridge concession

24.04.2026. The Russian Ministry of Transport discusses the implementation of the Lena Bridge concession

A working meeting between Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin and the Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Aisen Nikolayev was held at the Russian Ministry of Transport. The key topic was the construction of a bridge crossing over the Lena River near Yakutsk. VIS Group Chairman of the Board of Directors Sergey Romashov and VIS Group CEO Sergey Yudin briefed the minister on the current progress of the concession project and this year's production plans.

The key objective of the summer construction season is the commencement of work on the riverbed. After the ice drift ends, a unique technological operation is slated to bring the first floating cofferdam to its installation site. This technology for creating dry zones in the riverbed will be used for the first time in Russian bridge construction, allowing to reduce the cable-stayed bridge pylon construction time. Two of the three cofferdams are now fully completed.

“Special attention was paid to the construction of the Lena Bridge and issues related to the development of Yakutia's airport infrastructure. I would like to thank Andrei Sergeyevich for his support and attention to issues that are of great importance to our republic,” Aisen Nikolaev, Head of Yakutia, wrote in his MAX channel following the meeting.

The project is being implemented at the instruction of the President of Russia and is included in the “Infrastructure for Life” national project. Funding is provided from the federal and republican budgets, as well as extra-budgetary funds, which are being raised by the investor, VIS Group.

A press release following the meeting on the Russian Ministry of Transport's website noted that the total co-financing from the federal budget amounts to 43 billion rubles. The Lena Bridge is a unique project for such climate conditions. Similar design solutions were used in the construction of crossings across the Eastern Bosphorus Strait and Zolotoy Rog Bay in Vladivostok, but cable-stayed bridges have never been built in Yakutia's extreme cold, with intense ice drift, floods, and complex logistics for delivering materials to the Far North.

To date, Lena Bridge builders have installed 197 of the 920 bored piles for the coastal supports. One of these supports on the left bank is fully completed, reinforcement of another support is nearing completion, and concreting will begin soon. Approximately 500 people and 100 pieces of equipment are involved in the work.

The cable-stayed bridge will have two lanes, and its total length, including approaches, will be 14.5 km. The project is being implemented under a concession agreement between the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and VIS Group.
